Can health care employment decline?

Health care spending always increases and employment in the health care sector always rises.  At least that has been the trend over the last 10 plus years.  However, we may be seeing a shift.  Health care spending has grown much more slowly in recent years (3-4%) and the latest jobs report indicates that health care employment has even declined.

The Chicago Tribune reports:

Employment in education and health services dropped 6,000 in January, the most since September 2004, after a 4,000 decline at the end of 2013.

Is the U.S. now successfully bending the cost curve? Is Obamacare the reason? The answers have yet to be determined.
